TIPS TO HELP ME PAY OFF BAD DEBTS (MORE THAN 100 MILLION VND)

  • TIPS TO HELP ME PAY OFF BAD DEBTS (MORE THAN 100 MILLION VND)

I. What is Maslow's Tower of Demand?

Maslow's Tower of Needs, developed by psychologist Abraham Maslow, is a well-known theory in psychology that helps us better understand what humans need to feel happy and fulfilled. According to Maslow, human needs are divided into a ladder system, with each ladder representing a different type of need.

The Maslow Demand Tower is divided into 5 levels, including:

  1. Physiological needs: Basic needs such as eating, sleeping, and resting.
  2. Safety needs: Ensure financial and material security.
  3. Social needs: Friendship, love, and connection to the community.
  4. The need for respect: Recognition, respect from others, and self-esteem.
  5. The need for self-expression: Personal growth, unlocking the full potential and abilities of oneself.

According to Maslow, people will only aim for higher-level needs when lower-level needs have been met. For example, a person will find it difficult to focus on creativity or personal development when they are worried about securing enough food and shelter.

II. Correct Understanding of the 5th Order of Maslow's Tower of Needs

In English, the fifth level of the demand tower is called "self-actualization". Translated into Vietnamese, the word "needs" is often translated as "needs", which can be misunderstood as "wants" or "requirements". However, "needs" here has the original meaning of "necessary". In particular, the term "self-actualization" should not be understood as "self-expression", but more precisely "self-understanding", that is, the recognition and promotion of personal talents and potentials.

By correctly explaining "self-actualization," I would like to emphasize that it is not just about expressing oneself or achieving extravagant material success. Rather, it is the process of identifying and promoting one's full personal potential.

III. Reverse Maslow Demand Tower: How It Works

When I first learned about Maslow's Tower of Needs, I used to think that in order to achieve happiness and satisfaction, I needed to satisfy all needs, from low to high. However, when it comes to debt, focusing on the highest needs such as self-expression and social recognition only adds to the stress and difficulty of repaying the debt.

By starting by reducing unnecessary needs, I have relieved the pressure and motivated to focus on what really matters. When I'm in debt, I often get caught up in the spiral of meeting higher needs like recognition and social status, while ignoring the most basic needs.

And as I got a better understanding of the root meaning of "self-actualization," I realized that in order to get out of debt, I needed to start by identifying and eliminating unnecessary needs, rather than trying to achieve everything.

Here's how I did it:

  1. Public Statement: I publicly declare my debt on Facebook. This helps me to have support and create positive pressure to solve debt.

  2. Focus on small debt: I start paying off small debts first to create motivation and a sense of progress.

  3. Focus on my strengths: I take time to reflect and focus on my strengths, instead of chasing new forms of monetization.

  4. Seek help: With what is not my strength, I actively seek help or hire someone with expertise to do it.

As a result, when I walked backwards from the top of the tower, I felt a lot more comfortable and paying off the debt was no longer stressful. Currently, I only have bank debt (with collateral) and still have a positive cash flow to pay interest regularly with a comfortable mindset.

REVERSE MASLOW DEMAND TOWER: TIPS TO HELP ME PAY OFF BAD DEBTS (MORE THAN 100 MILLION VND)

I. What is Maslow's Tower of Demand?
Maslow's Tower of Needs is a well-known theory in psychology that helps us better understand what it takes for humans to feel happy and fulfilled. Psychologist Abraham Maslow has described human needs as a ladder, with each rung representing a different type of need.
Maslow's demand tower is divided into 5 levels, which is equivalent to 5 main levels as shown in the figure.
According to Maslow, people will only aim for higher-level needs when lower-level needs have been met. For example, a person won't be able to focus on finding creativity when they're worried about how to get enough food.
II. Correct understanding of the 5th order of Maslow's tower of demand
Maslow's hierarchy of needs in English is "Maslow's hierarchy of needs".
When translated into Vietnamese, the word "needs" with the original meaning of "need" translated as "demand" will be easy to misunderstand according to the meaning of "demands". While "needs" originally means "need". And the fatal misunderstanding is when the word "self-actualization" is translated as "self-actualization".
Whereas, "self-actualization" is understanding yourself. Specifically: "the realization or fulfillment of one's talents and potentialities, especially considered as a drive or need present in everyone.". Short translation: the recognition or promotion of a person's talents and potential.
In this article, I have chosen an illustration of Maslow's Tower of Needs with the Vietnamese caption of "the need to express yourself" as "unlocking the full potential, making the most of the possibilities".
Because most people will misunderstand that self-expression is associated with luxurious material things. Or the machine will follow the stairs one by one, and then when they reach the last step, they will cling to it, forever unable to climb down, especially for those who are facing debt.
The most miserable people are NOT the poor who are ploughing on the debt repayment platform.
The most miserable people are those who have been rich and still have to work hard to both pay their debts and live up to the label of "rich people" that they themselves have drawn, especially those who have shown it on social networks.
I went backwards from the top of the tower.
I announced my public repayment on Facebook.
I focus on paying off small debts to motivate myself.
I spend time reflecting and focusing on my strengths instead of exploring other forms of making money.
With what I am not strong at, I take the initiative to seek help or hire someone better to do it.
And surprisingly, when I went back from the top of the tower, I felt much more comfortable. And repaying the debt is no longer stressful.
Now I only have bank debt (with collateral) and still have a positive cash flow to pay interest regularly with a comfortable attitude.
Of course, within the framework of this short article, it is impossible to tell in detail. Each person will have a different debt situation. Especially those who are terrorized by creditors.
I look forward to reading the sharing and confidants of friends in the same situation. And if you have any questions or concerns, please comment below.
Just understand the 5th step of the Maslow Tower to go backwards, you will definitely have a more stable mind to face debt.
We will definitely win this debt game!
